Material Scientists and Atheism

Here are some of the quotes I found by each of these scientists/philosophers that show that they were atheist:

Charles Darwin: Charles Darwin was most famous for his theory of Evolution. Here were some of the atheistic things which he said:

• “I cannot persuade myself that a beneficent and omnipotent God would have designedly created parasitic wasps with the express intention of their feeding within the living bodies of caterpillars”

  • Here Darwin tries to make the argument that if God was all powerful and was kind and loving to all that he would not come up with such a grotesque creation

• “I am sorry to have to inform you that I do not believe in the Bible as a divine revelation and therefore not in Jesus Christ as the Son of God”

  • Darwin blatantly confesses that he does not believe in God

• “Never fight a man with his Bible; for it be his shield against reason”

  • Darwin explains how theists do not use reasoning and mock them for following and trusting the divine scriptures

Thomas Edison:

• “I have never seen the slightest scientific proof of the religious ideas of heaven and hell, of future life for individuals, or of a personal God.

• “So far as religion of the day is concerned, it is a damned fake. Religion is all bunk”

• “I do not believe in the God of the theologians; but that there is a Supreme Intelligence I do not doubt”

Sigmund Freud:

• “When a man is freed of religion, he has a better chance to live a normal and wholesome life”

• “[speaking about religion] So pathetically absurd and infantile that it is humiliating and embarrassing to think that the majority of people will never rise above it”

• “Religion is an illusion and it derives its strength from the fat that it falls in with our instinctual desires”

Albert Einstein: He was known as the greatest scientist of all time, and made major scientific breakthroughs in the field of physics, notably the theory of relativity. Unlike the other scientists mentioned above, Einstein believed in an impersonal form of God and rejected traditional religions such as Christianity.

• “I believe in God- who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of this universe”
