Immortality does not refer to the body. It refers to the spirituality of a soul. In order to attain immortality, one must persevere to gratify the senses of Lord Krishna, not themselves. Why do we have senses? We have our senses so that we can use them. How we use them is what we use our limited free will to decide. In this world of I, me, and mine, ignorant people use their senses to gratify themselves. In reality one’s senses were created in order for us to help gratify the senses of Lord Krishna. It will be painstaking at first to give up all false habits to purify oneself. Srila Prabhupada says in BG 2.15, “The difficulties usually arise from having to sever family relationships, to give up the connection of wife and children. But if anyone is able to tolerate such difficulties, surely his path to spiritual realization is complete.” Even though Prabhupada is talking about taking sannyasa here, this can apply anywhere. If one puts genuine efforts to pleasing Krishna, then that alone will be enough to please him.
