(referring to SB 1.2.33)

  1. HUMANS ARE INDEPENDENT: Translation of Srimad Bhagavatam 1.2.33 says, “The Supersoul enters into the bodies of the created beings who are influenced by the modes of material nature and causes them to enjoy the effects of these modes by the subtle mind.” The main thing that scientists got wrong was the idea that matter created itself and that there is no God who created the universe. Without Krishna, we are nothing, because He is the cause of all causes as explained in Srimad Bhagavatam 1.1.1. The scientists think that they are independent, but this verse says that we cannot even enjoy the effects of the 3 modes of material nature without paramatma. As Srila Prabhupada said, “The Lord as Paramātmā helps the living being to get material happiness because the living being is helpless in all respects in obtaining what he desires.” The correct conception is that humans are completely dependent on the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

  1. LIVING SPECIES EVOLVE FROM LOWEST TO HIGHEST IN INTELLECTUALITY: The modern scientists all follow Darwin’s theory of evolution that all life started from a single-celled organism. This concept is wrong and it can be defeated logically. First of all, the scientists do not know where that single-celled organism even comes from. Think about this: if you were creating a company, would you hire the CEO first, or would you hire the guy who cleans the toilets? You would hire the CEO because he is the one who knows how to successfully build the company. Similarly, all life in the material world starts from the most intellectual being to the least intellectual being. Srila Prabhupada explains in the purport of Srimad Bhagavatam 1.2.33 that “There are 8,400,000 species of living beings beginning from the highest intellectual being, Brahma, down to the insignificant ant…” So actually, everything started from Krishna who is sat-cit-ananda or eternally blissful and knowledgeable. He is the supreme intellectual being. He then created Lord Brahma from his thoughts. Lord Brahma meditated on Sri Krishna and created all the 8.4 million species in this material world. The correct conception is that all living species came from the most knowledgeable personality, Krishna, and then decreased in order from highest to lowest in intelligence.

  1. THE MIND IS PRODUCED BY MATTER: The scientists believe that the mind is the product of the body, but actually it is the other way around. Srila Prabhupada explains in the purport of Srimad Bhagavatam 1.2.33 that: “The gross material body is based on the conditions of the subtle mind, and the senses are created according to the desire of the living being.” This means that according to our subtle mind and our past karma, we are given the new body to live in. This means that the mind precedes the body. Hence, the correct conception is that the mind is what determines the matter.

From these wrong conceptions of the scientists we can understand that their idea of “science” is completely incorrect. They have understood everything completely opposite. Just because scientists create complex technology like missiles, buildings, phones, planes, etc. doesn’t mean that they really understand science. It is like the story where the mother scorpion lays her eggs in a rice field in the middle of the night. When the scorpions hatch, they come out of the rice field and the farmer thinks oh, now I know, scorpions come from rice! It may look like that, but the scorpions actually came from a mother. Similarly, the scientists have the wrong conception of life. Those who follow modern science are actually equivalent to animals. Animals do not understand anything about real science. They can only eat, sleep, mate, and defend. Hence, if we do not want to be animals and if we want to learn real science, we must learn from Srimad Bhagavatam and understand real science in relation with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krishna.
