Supply chain- the sequence and processes of producing and distributing a product or commodity.

______________________________________________________________________

DAIRY

Supply chain of a typical dairy:

  1. Cows and bulls are bought as well as facilities that are necessary.

  2. Cows and bulls are taken care of and fed properly.

  3. Cows are milked.

  4. Milk is kept in bottles.

  5. Milk is transported to the processing facility.

  6. The milk is screened for any contamination, then is homogenized, and pasteurized.

  7. Milk is packaged for the final product.

  8. Milk is transported to retailers.

  9. Retailers sell the milk bottles.

Most of the milk that is seen in the grocery stores has gone through processing facilities in order to increase the life of the milk so that it can be kept in the store for a longer period of time and can be used by people. The problem of using processing facilities is that the natural healthy bacteria in the milk get killed and the sweet, natural taste of the milk is gone. Instead, the factories incorporate the milk so that the cream and liquid of the original milk do not get separated. They then pasteurize the milk by boiling it to a certain heat and then add extra chemicals and vitamins to the milk to give the milk a healthy appeal.

However, in our current system that we have in place, we do not homogenize or pasteurize the milk. We sell the milk as it is so that the original nutrients that come from the cow are still present. Those who buy the milk will pasteurize it themselves. Hence, our supply chain will be different from the typical dairy.

It will look something like this:

  1. Cows and bulls are bought as well as facilities that are necessary.

  2. Cows and bulls are taken care of and fed properly.

  3. Cows are milked.

  4. Milk is kept in bottles.

  5. Milk is transported to retailers.

  6. Retailers sell the milk bottles.

FARM

Supply chain of a typical farm:

  1. Farming resources are bought.

  2. Farm beds are prepared.

  3. Seeds are planted during the correct season.

  4. Plants are cared for according to instructions daily.

  5. Vegetables and fruits are harvested in the correct time.

  6. They are washed and cleaned from all insects and bacteria.

  7. Foods are packaged.

  8. Foods are transported to the retailers.

  9. Retailers sell the foods.

Our farm system pretty much follows suit with the supply chain of any other typical farm.
