A Matter of Duty

The translation of BG 3.19 states, “Therefore, without being attached to the fruits of activities, one should act as a matter of duty, for by working without attachment one attains the Supreme.” The phrase “to act as a matter of duty” means that one should only perform actions as a duty, that is, they should not be attached to the results of their activities and must carry out their duties on behalf of Krishna. Srila Prabhupada confirms this in the purport: “But action in Kṛṣṇa consciousness is transcendental to the reactions of good or evil work. A Kṛṣṇa conscious person has no attachment for the result but acts on behalf of Kṛṣṇa alone.” It should not be mistaken that those in Krishna consciousness do not act. That is a mayavadi philosophy. Krishna consciousness is actually an action that is solely meant to please the Lord, not our senses
